In order to understand what this is all about it is probably a good idea to understand where I am coming from. I didn’t always know that this was my path though I have definitely done some variation of this (write, coach, cook, etc.) my whole life. It’s like the cosmos was trying to tell me something and for whatever reason I just wasn’t listening.
A little over a year ago I was a busy mother working for a nonprofit tech company that I helped to start. My average work week was 50 hours plus, not including the hours I spent on the road or in airports. My children (and I) spent over 10 hours a week in swim practice and another 4 hours at swim meets. My spare time I devoted to three nonprofit organizations as a board member and with what was left of my time I tried to get to hot yoga at least twice week. Then there was still dinner, homework, laundry… you get the picture. This story is not unique, nor do I expect applause. Not the point of this story.
Anyhow, I started to feel drained. I mean REALLY drained. By 5 o’clock I was ready for bed and barely able to keep my eyes open. It took all I could to get my tasks done, and instead of cutting myself a break when I faltered I thought ‘get off your ass and stop being so lazy’. Surely what I needed was more exercise, better time management and to just stop with the whining. I had a vacation coming up and if I could just make it to that I’d be able to unwind.
Vacation came and went and I was still exhausted, AND to top it off I was constantly nauseous. Yes! I could barely eat and I was dropping weight at an alarming speed. Finally, enough was enough, I had to see my doctor. One doctor visit and some blood work later I get a call telling me to check myself into the hospital immediately. Uh, yes, scary! And there I stayed for almost two weeks.
I won’t bore you with the details, but will say to pay attention to what your body is telling you. PAY ATTENTION!
Needless to say my health scare and subsequent rehab made me question my life and what was important to me. The first thing I did was research. TONS of research to figure out how to improve my health naturally and reduce the number of meds I was taking. I started using doTerra essential oils, researching options with Healing with Whole Foods, and adding high quality herbal supplements. Next, I had to think about my psychological and spiritual wellbeing. I started by doing the 21 Day Consciousness Cleanse on Daily Om. It was hard, and I cried, a LOT, but it was worth it. You can read more about my big break through here. Last, I tried to create boundaries between my time, work time and family time. But when it was all said and done, though I had the best of intentions, I continued working at the same pace, starting traveling even more, and basically just fell off the wagon.
So how did I get here?! Well, that is the rest of the story and what I plan to share with you here. So keep reading!
